Part of what makes acne so frustrating is trying to understand what triggers a break out. No two acne sufferers are alike so the treatments that work for one, may not work for another. Therefore, it is important to understand all the different factors that contribute to a breakout, so you can make some adjustments to your lifestyle if needed.

Acne Triggers

One of the biggest acne triggers is something that many of us have, but we aren’t even aware that it’s going on – chronic inflammation. Inflammation is a natural response our bodies make when a foreign invader is introduced or when body tissue is damaged. In these scenarios, inflammation is good because it helps our bodies heal. Inflammation becomes a problem when our bodies cause swelling around organs and other tissues when exposed to certain environmental factors. These factors include:

  • Saturated fats, trans fats, and carbs that are high on the Glycemic Index
  • Foods you may have developed allergies towards
  • Smoking
  • Gut/ digestion problems
  • Stress
  • Sleep deprivation
  • Excessive alcohol consumption (more than two glasses a day)

Getting a good night’s sleep, exercising regularly, and adopting a healthy diet that includes lots of fresh, raw veggies is a great start to reducing bodily inflammation and returning your body back to a more natural and healthy state.
